Joe Catalano
“Spring” - 24" x 36" - Oil
Joe is Canadian by birth and Italian by heritage. He is a founding partner and president of Concept 3 Advertising Agency in Toronto, and a graduate of the Ontario College of Art.
Since 2001, Joe has been introducing a new concept to the Canadian fine art scene - a blend of art and philanthropy that he calls Art and The Art of Giving. It began with a pivotal painting that Joe named Colours of Freedom, which has become the namesake and symbol of a movement for peace. The project began as a response to the terrible tragedy of 9/11. Joe offered a collection of his art to be published as a book, complemented by the poetry of Donna Penrice, to raise funds for children's peace initiatives. This collection of Joe's art was exhibited and his book was launched at a poignant ceremony at St. Paul's Basilica in Toronto. Joe initiated the Portfolio Project, featuring the works of 20 outstanding international artists, including Robert Bateman, and H.R.H. The Duke of York; all of whom share a passion for helping children and support the Colours of Freedom vision.
Joe was honoured to be invited as one of six Italian Canadian artists to represent those who had been influenced by Canada's Group of Seven at the Columbus Centre in Toronto. In conjunction with this show, The McMichael Gallery in Kleinberg assembled an unprecedented collection of Group of Seven art at the Columbus Centre for a fundraising gala. Joe continues to explore ways to contribute creatively with his art.
